Children

The family of God is made up of people of all ages and no Church is complete without children. Every child is welcome at St James’ and as a symbol of that inclusiveness, a large carpet has been spread out in the south aisle for our smaller children to enjoy, with books and toys alongside.

On the 1st Sunday of each month the Mass is designed to cater for All Ages. On these occasions different interactive elements dove-tail into the usual Mass framework and the language and the music are made as child-friendly as possible.

For the other three Sundays of the month, the St James’ Sunday School is open. This meets in the Church Hall on the corner of Prebend Street and Packington Street. They follow a very lively programme which parallels the teaching themes being used by the adults in Church.

Children are welcome in Sunday School from birth when accompanied by a parent or carer and from 5 years they can become full members of Sunday School on their own.

Each year there are two family parties, the Mardi Gras event just before Lent in the Church Hall and a summer party in the Vicarage gardens.
